Raymond William “Jake” Proenneke passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the age of 91. Although Raymond, aka “Jake” was not as well known as his brother, Richard, he nonetheless was as adventurous and as full of life. Had it not been for Raymond, Richard’s dream would have been much more difficult, if not impossible to fulfill.
At the age of 83, Richard finally left his home at Twin Lakes, AK, and moved in with Raymond in Hemet, CA. Raymond cared for his brother Richard during his final years. An untamed cat who anxiously and expectantly awaited a daily meal, was faithfully provided by Raymond on the ledge behind his lemon tree. He took great care with animals and plants in his neighborhood as well as his many friends and relatives.
